Metromedia Moves Up Sale of Russia-Based PeterStar

Charlotte, North Carolina -- Metromedia, a U.S.-based owner of various
communications and media businesses in Russia and Georgia,
announced that it expects to close the 176-million-euro sale of
PeterStar, Metromedia's Russia-based telecommunications business,
earlier than originally announced. The company said it now expects the
deal to close on Aug. 8, a week earlier than the initial word from
Metromedia. Metromedia's core telephony businesses include
Magticom, a Georgia-based mobile telephony operator, and Telecom
Georgia, a Georgia-based long-distance telephony operator.
