Eircom Shares Soar on Rumours of Swisscom Takeover Bid

Dublin -- Shares in Eircom Group Plc rose by as much as 10% in late
afternoon trading on the ISEQ after new reports linked Swisscom, the
largest telecommunications company in Switzerland, with a possible 3-
million-euro bid for the Irish telecommunications company. A report in
the Irish Independent suggested that Eircom, which recently returned to
the Irish mobile market, was a perfect target for Swisscom, whose bid
for Telekom Austria was scuttled last year by political interference. For
its part, Eircom has denied an approach by Swisscom or any other
company.
