Edinburgh -- Wolfson Microelectronics, a
Scotland-based computer
chip designer, has reported £21.7 million in pre-tax profits, a 156%
year-on-year increase. The performance far exceeded most
analysts' expectations. Wolfson, which makes chips that change
digital signals to analogue, said the popularity of "iconic" gadgets
like iPods, Sony's PSPs, mobile phones, global positioning
systems, flat-screen TVs and digital radios boosted the company's
sales. "With the continuing expansion of digital consumer market,
the Board is confident of delivering further growth in 2006," said
Wolfson CEO David Milne.
